Vancouver Wa Chiropractor: What is Subluxation?
Misalignment of the spine causing irritation and nerve pressure is termed as subluxation by chiropractors. It is also known as pinched nerves. Subluxations of the vertebrae of the spine are the most common type. Even if there is a light misalignment, it can result in pressure and irritation upon nerves which then effects the communication of the nerve impulses to the cells, organs and tissues of the body to carry out their functions. The more misalignment there is, the more chances there are of a nerve being affected. If the subluxation is severe, it can cause a lot of pain, illness and discomfort.
Minor subluxations take place from ordinary activities from day to day like a simple of turning or twisting. If ignored, it can become chronic and result in serious and painful conditions. Major subluxations can be caused by an injury or fall. Any type of shock that overloads the protective mechanism of the nervous system can result in major subluxations. At times even the ever present downward pull of gravity can have an effect on the upright body and overcome the balance of the body resulting in poor posture and misalignment of the spinal vertebrae. The nerve irritation caused by the condition of subluxation can result in abnormal working of the organs, cells and tissues of the body.
Acute subluxations can be treated with a few adjustments whereas chronic subluxations take a lot of adjustment sessions to get the misaligned vertebrae to its normal and usual position. Neurological, orthopedic, kinesiological, physical and spinal tests like x-rays are some of the type of examinations that chiropractors help to locate subluxations. With the help of spinal manipulation, the chiropractor skillfully and carefully moves the vertebrae to its original position and he or she removes the interference to the normal control of the body.
