Vancouver Wa Chiropractor: Chiropractic Examination

September 30, 2010

In order to get to a treatment plan, chiropractors use a particular standard procedure to evaluate and examine the patient. Almost all of the health care providers do that. This is done to be sure of the problem that the patient has and to determine the exact cause of the pain. There are many methods used like case history, x-ray, laboratory analysis, consultation and physical examination.

The chiropractic consultation seems very similar to a normal medical consultation to a patient. The main difference in a chiropractic consultation and a medical consultation is the examination of the spine in particular to understand the function and structure. The main emphasis is given to the spine in chiropractic treatment.

There are many methods to assess and treat back pain and pain in other parts of the body like specialized assessment, common diagnostic studies, physical examination and neurology and evaluation and management services. In specialized assessment, chiropractors assess stability, muscle tone, muscle strength, range of motion and some more methods with the lower back. In the common diagnostic studies, chiropractors asses with the help of laboratory diagnostics, neuro diagnostics, radiography or x-rays and similar other tools.

In order to catch any tenderness, defects, asymmetry and misalignment, chiropractors examine bones, muscles, joints, neck, head, tendons of the spine and various other areas of the body. This is known as evaluation and management. There are other tests that are performed by chiropractors like orthopedic, cardiovascular and neurologic like coordination, nerve root compression, motor strength, pathological reflexes and deep tendon. There are more common examinations that are carried out by chiropractors.

All of these examinations are carried out by a chiropractor before confirming the problem and preparing a treatment plan for the patient. These tests help them in understanding the root cause of the problem and how severe it is. Once that is determined, it is easier to carry out a plan and help the patient get relief from the pain and discomfort.
